The statues of St. Zenon and his companions, probably angels from the cemetery wall, are rare specimens of the preserved individual statues in Istra.
According to the legend, Zenon was a fisherman from Verona, where he lived in the 4th century. He was famous for his wisdom and kindness, due to which a mitre was eventually conferred on him. He is a patron of Verona and a patron saint protecting people and their property from floods. His attributes are the bishop’s robes and crosier with a fish hanging on it.
