Since 1993
Colophon
A project built with original ideas and expertise
148,190 working hours
1,459,000 road kilometers traveled
212,650 km of terrain work on foot
3,179,400 meters of cumulative ascent (equivalent to over a thousand climbs from sea level to the summit of Triglav)
Why is the website designed for large screens?
The panoramic and virtual guides offered by burger.si are created for large screens, where users can fully experience spatial dimensions, discern details, and completely immerse themselves. On the smaller screens of smartphones or tablets, this effect is lost, interaction is less precise, and loading is slower.
The site is therefore designed for large screens because it:
- provides optimal display quality,
- enables precise exploration of panoramas,
- preserves the sense of spatial dimension, which is the essence of the project.
Mobile users have access to basic information and galleries, while the full panoramic experience is intended for computers and larger displays.
In-depth about the MojaSlovenija.si project
The website MojaSlovenija.si (mojaslovenija.si) is a thirty-year-old online project presenting natural and cultural heritage (1993–1996) based on interactive 360° spatial photography.
"burger.si" happened to become the first comprehensive and organized online presentation of Slovenia. The name "burger" originates from the author's surname, but also means "free man."
The purpose of the project is to document geographic locations for the visual experience of people with mobility issues and for remote learning. The locations aid the user's spatial perception.
The idea was born in 1993, with intensive fieldwork beginning in 1994 with documenting waterfalls and watercourses. The online presence began in February 1996, and the burger.si domain was registered in March 1997. The project has been operational since 1996 – at least 10 hours daily, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. By July 2011, it encompassed 11,000 locations with 360° images.
Since 2000, it has been hosted on the servers of the Academic and Research Network of Slovenia (ARNES). By November 2009, the site had been visited by 25.5 million unique IPs. By July 2011, it had an Alexa rating below 100,000 and a Google PageRank of 6/10.
From July to October 2011, the content was removed due to an inspection process and a demand for the destruction of the photographic archive. The web rating, built over 16 years, was decimated.
The 'City View' project already covered Ljubljana with street-level views in 1998 – Ljubljana as an open-air museum. Navigation was conducted via a city sketch. Slovenia was the first country in the world documented using the 360° spatial flight method. The project also expanded to the underground karst world – "Subterranean View."
