Roman necropolis from Šempeter is one of
the most important archeological monument in Slovenia. Šempeter is situated in the Savinjska dolina
(Savinjska valley), 11 km west from Celje. At the begining of the 20th centuriy the Savinja river passed close to the settlement but now the river-bed
is about 1 km south-west away. The necropolis was
covered with the rubel by Savinja river in about 166 AD. Necropolis
was excavated and brought to light during the 1952 - 1967. Today there
is an archaeological park which worth seeing.
