Zadnja Trenta |
|
Zadnja Trenta is the highest and westernmost part of the Trenta Valley, located in the heart of Triglav National Park. It is an area of exceptional natural beauty, combining dramatic alpine peaks, wild streams, rich flora and fauna, and historically significant trails. Although less known than some other alpine valleys, Zadnja Trenta offers a unique experience of authentic mountain wilderness. Zadnja Trenta stretches from the source of the Soča River westward, where the valley narrows and rises toward mountain ridges. The area is surrounded by majestic peaks such as:
At the valley floor flows the Suhi potok stream, fed by numerous torrential tributaries and waterfalls, including the Zapotoški slapovi. At the very end of the valley, below the Zapotok pasture, lies the area of Zapoden, the westernmost part of Zadnja Trenta. Zapoden is a picturesque alpine cirque, where nature creates a wild landscape of moraines, waterfalls, and rocky cliffs. Zadnja Trenta is sometimes referred to as Zadnja dolina (Last Valley), Zadnja vas (Last Village), or Flori, derived from the name of a former pasture or homestead. Historical sources describe it as the last inhabited part of Trenta, where residents lived in modest conditions, often engaged in forestry, grazing, and mining activities. In the 19th century, the valley was visited by Julius Kugy, a renowned mountaineer and writer, who described the beauty of Trenta and the Julian Alps in his works. His monument stands not far from Zadnja Trenta. Zadnja Trenta is part of Triglav National Park, which means it is under strict protection. Here you can find:
The area is also important for many bird species, wildlife, and rare plants such as the Triglav rose. Zadnja Trenta is a starting point for several demanding mountain hikes:
Access is possible by road from Bovec through the Trenta Valley, with the final section being a gravel road leading to the parking area at Flori. From there, the trail continues on foot toward Zapoden, where untouched alpine scenery unfolds. |
