Snow plough JŽ 990074
The snow-ploughs were in use until the end of the era of steam locomotives. These special 6-wheel vehicles were filled up with old iron (mostly with worn-out brake-shoes) in order to assure the necessary stability during their work.
For working their way through deep snowdrifts, a single locomotive would often not be sufficient – there were frequently two or even three locomotives banking the plough through the heavy snow. Today, these historical mechanical giants have been replaced by modern motorised rotary snow-ploughs.
