F. BAROQUE ROOM (18th century). The classical clarity and simplicity of the Renaissance changed in the Baroque period to a seething, luxuriant style which ignored all earlier rules of form. Maximum decorative effect was achieved by placing columns outwards, rejecting flat surfaces and straight lines, cutting off the corners of furniture and using heavy decorations and tall extended sections. The clock on display in this room is made in the form of an engraved and decorated ball which, when wound up, is driven by its own weight. (from 1748).
