Srebrno sedlo (2115 m) is a high‑mountain pass in the central Kamnik–Savinja Alps. It lies between two distinct ridges: the rocky chain of the Zeleniške špice with Najvišji rob (2127 m) to the south, and the broad, broken slopes of Planjava (2394 m) to the north. The pass forms a natural transition between the western and eastern sections of the main ridge and serves as an important orientation point in the high‑mountain area above Korošica and the upper Kamniška Bistrica valley.
Geographical setting
Srebrno sedlo is located in an area where several contrasting alpine landscapes meet:
-
To the east, the pass opens toward the head of the Kamniška Bistrica valley, which ends here in scree slopes and walls beneath Planjava and Ojstrica.
-
To the northeast, it borders Repov kot, a steep and narrow valley cutting between the northern slopes of the Zeleniške špice and the southern walls of Planjava.
-
To the west, the terrain descends into a system of high‑mountain basins known as the Petkove doline, which lead toward Korošica.
-
To the south, the ridge of the Zeleniške špice rises above the valley of Kamniška Bistrica.
Because of its exposed position, the pass is subject to rapid weather changes and strong winds, while also providing access between several important high‑mountain routes.
Geomorphology
The area around Srebrno sedlo is formed from Triassic limestone, shaped by intense freeze‑thaw weathering. Characteristic landforms include:
-
scree slopes beneath the walls of Planjava,
-
rocky steps and ledges on the ascent toward the Zeleniške špice,
-
narrow basins and gullies created by a combination of glacial erosion and later karst processes,
-
broken ridges with sharp transitions.
The pass lies within a high‑mountain karst environment, where small dolines and fissures appear on grassy and scree‑covered surfaces.

The pass serves as a starting point for the ascent of Planjava via its southern slopes.
-
The route is steep and partly demanding.
Character and significance
Srebrno sedlo functions as:
-
an important orientation point between Korošica, Repov kot, and the Zeleniške špice ridge,
-
part of a high‑mountain transition between the northern and southern sides of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps,
-
an area with a clear geomorphological contrast between the steep walls of Planjava and the more open basins of the Petkove doline,
-
a starting point for several high‑mountain tours connecting the central ridge with valleys on both sides.
The pass retains the character of a remote alpine environment where different relief forms meet and where movement requires experience and familiarity with the terrain.
