Aasleagh Falls and Killary fjord

City Viewvirtual excursion

Aasleagh Falls on the River Erriff are located in Mayo county before the water enters into the Killary fjord nearby the village Leenane, which is a small village at the head of Killary Fjord. Killary Fjord is located on the border between Galway and Mayo counties. It is the largest fjord in Ireland, beside two other fjords: Lough Swilly (Donegal) and Carlingford Lough (Louth).
Killary Fjord stretches for 16 kilometres inland to the village of Leenane, which sits at the head of the fjord. The area is surrounded by towering mountains, with the highest of Connacht’s mountains, Mweelrea on the northwest shore. The border of Galway and Mayo Counties runs right through the middle of the inlet, which reaches up to 45 metres deep in the centre.

South of Killary Fjord along the N59 road, is Kylemore Abbey and the Victorian Walled Garden.
