Château d'Ussé

Usse Chateau is located in the scenic area of the Loire Valley at the edge of the Forest of Chinon. From its grand location, it commands an exceptional view over both the nearby Indre and the mighty Loire River valleys.

Jean de Bueil began the construction of this architectural masterpiece in 1462, on the foundations of an older medieval fortress. When the famous writer Charles Perrault visited the castle in the 17th century, he was so enchanted by its fairytale silhouette that it became his direct inspiration for writing the world-renowned story 'Sleeping Beauty'.
