Le Colorado Provençal de Rustrel (Les sentiers des Ocriers). Ochre cliffs known as Le Colorado Provençal are located southern from a village Rustrel, nestled at the foot of the Plateau d'Albion in the Regional park of Luberon. The exploitation of ochre began in the end of the 19th century and Rustrel soon become an important production centre thanks to its ferruginous minerals (FeO3). Most of the area is nowadays an attractive "Mars like" landscape.
The area which extens to about 30 hectares is with the very intensive erosion of the sand ochre cliffs, so the relief of the sand cliffs is changing during the the time period quite fast. (The visualisation with surround photography is from year 2006).
