Split (Spalatum)
Split is the largest town of Dalmatia. It is situated on the peninsula of the west bay of Kastel and the Channel of Split.
The old nucleus of the town and remains of the Diocletian palace in Split (Spalatum) represent one of the most important ancient monuments. The complex of the palace was inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1979.
The Diocletian's Palace was built between the late 3rd and early 4th century. Today, it forms the vibrant historic core of the city, beautifully blending ancient architecture with modern urban life.
