National park Krka has got its name by the Croatian river Krka, which nearby the town Knin joins from smaller brooks into a river which flows 75 km towards its estuary into the Adriatic Sea.
The area of the National park Krka is about 142 square km including 25.6 square km of the water area. The park is geographically located in Middle Dalmatia and is known by its travertine waterfalls, from which the largest is the lower one – Skradinski buk.
In the central part of the park is a lake Visovac with an island Visovac where stands a monastery. The area of Skradinski buk is known by the former hydroelectric power plant which was the second oldest hydroelectric power plant in the world. Below the Skradinski buk starts the estuary of Krka river where a medieval town Skradin is situated.
