Viktring Abbey

Vetrinj (Viktring). The settlement is situated south of Klagenfurt. The historic sight of Viktring is the Cistercian Abbey which was established in 1142 – six years after the famous Cistercian Abbey in Stična.

Nearby the abbey is the magnificent church built in Burgundy style (as the Cistercian order originated in Burgundy, France), which was consecrated in 1202. Due to its institutional and structural significance, Viktring was an exceptionally important cultural and educational centre throughout the Middle Ages.
