Heiligenblut (elevation ~1,297 m) is located at the foot of Austria’s largest glacier Pasterze and southeast of the Grossglockner (Großglockner), the highest mountain in Austria.

The settlement serves as the southern starting point of the magnificent Alpine highway 'Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse' leading to Dölfach.

The iconic sight of the village is the Gothic pilgrimage church of St. Vinzenz, which was constructed between the years 1460 and 1491. This church, featuring a marvelous double-winged altar, contains a historic relic believed to hold Christ's Holy Blood, from which the village derives its name.
