The renaissance castle Bogenšperk is situated a few miles southern from Smartno pri Litiji. (It is less than one hour of drive from the capital Ljubljana). The shape of four tract and two floor building with the inner courtyard and cornertowers is from the 1511 when the Wagen family (original name of the castle: Wagensperk) started to build the castle. It is one of the best preserved castles in Slovenia nowdays.The place is famous by the Carniolan explorer and the polymath Janez Vajkard Valvasor. He lived and worked here from 1672 to 1692. He had set up the first graphic workroom in Slovenia in the castle. Museum collections, castle library, castle chapel and reconstructed hall are shown in the castle. Castle is also a popular wedding place.
