The parish church of St. Rupert in Šentrupert is one of the most beautiful Gothic churches in Slovenia. Its main monumental value is in architecture, which shows the interplay of the influences of Styria and Gorenjska Gothic. The presbytery was built at the beginning and the ship was completed at the end of the 15th century.

The Gothic Church is first mentioned in 1163, but if we take into account its beginnings, patrocini and historical circumstances, and especially the emergence of parish, the time of origin should be sought as early as the 11th century. The patronage over the parish was acquired in 1393 by the famous Count Herman II. Celje, and in 1493 the church was annexed to the new collegiate capitol in Novo mesto.

According to recent research by Robert Peskar in 1993, the present image of the church is the result of at least three construction stages in the 15th century. The most important is the first to be determined by architectural articles and stonemasonic signs on pieces of sandstone, and includes the presbytery, ground floor and floor of the bell tower, a staircase on the north side and an east ship with a support on the south side. They continued their work only in the second half of the century, when the bell tower was completed in the second phase and the shell was completed today. In the third phase, which was completed in 1497 (the year on the portal), the ship's ceiling (which was initially flat and wooden) was vaulted and a simple shipping portal was inserted into the western facade.
