Ribnica is administrative and cultural centre of the Ribnica valley. This area is particularly known by the wooden ware which has a few centuries long tradition in thi area. Symbol of Ribnica is a fish (riba) which is also in the coat of arms. Towers of the parish church were projected by the architect Jože Plečnik. Year 1082 is taken as the first mention of the settlement but the first reilable date was 1220.
