Tla so ilovnata, stene ometane z ilovico in prebeljene z apnom.
A dwelling house of the subpannonian type, which was back then also the most freqent type in the area of the river Sotla, was built in the beginning of 19th century and there are two dates carved into the transversal beams of the house to prove it. It belonged to a family called Šmit from a nearby village Tlake. A well known poet and translator Jože Šmit was born and raised in this house. When it was transported in 1981, it became a foundation stone of the musem, which was then slowly takig its shape. The house is entirely built of wood and has a thatched roof. The floor is made of clay whereas the walls were first roughcasted with clay and then whitewashed.
