Smartno is situated in Goriska Brda on the ridge near the road Kojsko-Dobrova. Picturesque, fortified medieval village was built on the remains of the old Roman encampment. The settlement is walled in with seven defence towers. The dominant building of the Smartno is a baroque church of St. Martin with the bell-tower, which use to be a defence tower. Former living conditions and habits are presented with the museum collection in a renewed old gothic house. Nearby the settlement stands belvedere where is a great vista to Smartno and Goriska Brda.
