Uvod-PrologueInfo Virtual guide Kamnik - Virtualni vodnik po Kamniku
The museum of Kamnik covers the area spanning from the Kamnik Alps to the Zasavje region. Apart from permanent displays, it mounts temporary and guest exibitions. It is located in the Zaprice castle (built in the first half of the 16th century) which acquired its present appearance in the Baroque period. A lapidary of selected archeological and art heritage findings in stone (Roman finds from the 1st century AD; a Gothic relief with an angel carrying four coats-of-arms, among which is the coat-of-arms of Kamnik with St.Margaret) has been arranged under the arcades of the entrance to the Castle.

A permanent display of the early production of bentwood products ranging from skis to industrial furniture making is on show on the firts floor with special emphasis on the Thonet curving patent and the use of this patent in Slovenia. The historic castle has three buildings and an open-air museum, which features the disappearing heritage of rural architecture, granaries, a kiln, a fruit mill and a fountain. The image of the castle is rounded off by the Baroque belvedere and protected trees.
