The permanent archaeological exhibition

Dolenjski muzej Novo mesto. The permanent archaeological exhibition, which covers the period from the late Stone Age to the last centuries of Antiquity . The new permanent exhibition was open on July 14th 2008. Archaeological collection represents time period from Early Stone Age to the last antic centuries. Geographically it covers the area between Gorjanci and Kocevski Rog mountain ranges and river Sava, from Valicna vas and Veliki Gaber on the west to Sentjernej on the east. Culture of urn burials as well as Illyric Celt and Roman cultures are represented. Large part of the collection consists of Novo mesto burial site findings, most important being the Late Iron Age finds, so called "Flourishing Dolenjska Halstat". Other archeological findings from different Dolenjska locations are also kept by the Museum. Currently research is centered around annual archaeological excavations of pre-historical sites in Novo mesto.
