Metlika is a border town with the position between Gorjanci hills and the Kolpa River plain. Metlika is a political, economical in cultural centre of the northeastern part of Bela krajina. The old town is situated on the prominence above the Obrh brook. The old centre of Metlika was built nearby the Metlika castle because of the better deffence against the Turks attacks in the 14th century.
