Lacoste is a picturesque medieval village, which is situated on the east end of a mountain spine rising up out of the plains between the Plateau de Vaucluse to the north and the Luberon moutain to the south-east. The first record of the settlement is 'Costa' from the year 1056. Lacoste was home of Marquis de Sade (end of 18^th century) who was known by his erotic writing and outlandish behaviour
